Listing agent Latham Jenkins says the ranch’s new owners will be “great stewards of this historic property.”
For the first time in 55 years, one of the oldest continuously operating guest ranches in Jackson Hole, Lost Creek Ranch, has new owners. On January 31, 2024, the Bruce Gottwald Family closed on the 50-acre luxury guest ranch, which had been owned by the Halpin Family since 1969. The last listing price was $39,950,000.
“Having the opportunity to list and represent an iconic property like Lost Creek Ranch has been a pinnacle to date in my career,” says Latham Jenkins, the listing agent and an associate broker at Live Water Properties. “These guest ranch properties have shaped Jackson Hole from its beginnings and formed the hospitality industry that drives our economy today. It is with the deepest level of reverence I approach these assignments to ensure we pay homage to both the heritage of the property and its owners.”
The Gottwald Family, which were guests at Lost Creek for 10 summers—some of the younger generation even worked at the ranch—plans to continue to operate Lost Creek as a guest ranch. “We have enormous respect for the Halpins, their stewardship of the land and commitment to the greater Jackson Hole area, and their creation of the premiere western guest ranch that is Lost Creek,” the family says. “We plan to build on this and look forward to continuing this nearly 100-year-old tradition at Lost Creek, introducing others to the West, and giving more guests the same experience that helped shape who we are.” The family has experience in the hospitality industry; a member owns and operates The Georges Inn, a boutique inn in Lexington, Virginia, which Travel & Leisure recognized as one of the Top 100 Hotels in the World in 2020.
Jenkins says, “The Jackson Hole community has gained another great steward of this historic property who will continue the traditions that have been established with the past owners. Having the benefit of continued guest operations will touch so many who come to experience the American West. They get to ride horses, stay in cabins, and take in the Teton views; it touches one’s soul.”
While it was former guests that purchased the Lost Creek, the listing received worldwide recognition. The ranch was the fourth most-read “Listing of the Day” of 2023 on Mansion Global, an award-winning, international platform about the global real estate market and was also featured in 15 additional publications, including Forbes, Robb Report, Yahoo, and BizJournals. In total, the exposure Jenkins garnered for his listing totaled more than 4 million views.
Jasmin Stidham, the ranch’s general manager, says that Jenkins, who was recognized by Real Trends as #1 (2021) and #2 (2022) in individual residential sales in Wyoming, “Shared the ranch across the world in such a remarkable way. He is a master of his craft.”
